Yuexiu gōngyuán (park)

All around the world, China

_MG_2556_MG_2614

This is the park nearby my grandparent´s appartment. I grew up in this park with my grandma and grandpa until I was three years old, so it is a bit special to be there. Unfortunately I don´t have any memories from this time, but I love to hear stories from it. I feel like this is a place I can call home._MG_2629_MG_2613

My grandmother always tells me stories from when I was little about how she used to take me to this park and how I walked around picking snails from the ground and ran around. I loved to feed the fishes, sing songs, pet the five goats that Guangzhou is known for, and I am pretty sure I learned how to count in this park when grandma and I counted the stair. _MG_2605_MG_2608_MG_2598

I moved back to Norway when I was three, and ever since, every time we have been to China we have visited this park. When we were smaller we used to love the amusement park there, but now we are a bit skeptic to the maintenance, haha. Cheers to childhood memories!_MG_2618

Guangzhou countryside

All around the world, China

Sorry that I haven´t been active lately, but the wifi in China was really bad and when I got home to Norway the wifi didn’t work here either, so now I am like sitting on a public place with free wifi. I will blog about China until the trip to Berlin, so I hope you want to follow up!

So after the atelier, our next activity was a trip to the countryside of Guangzhou. It was different from the city life in China that I have gotten so used to, but it was magnific. A river flowing through the whole village with old tree boats made me feel like being in a Chinese Venezia.

I feel like a village like this represents the old China, before the skyscrapers, blocks, etc., but not entirely of course. People were sitting on the street selling fruits and different kinds of food. When we were on the boat we tasted something directly translated to english called “two-layers-milk”, and oh, that was yummy. It is the white thing you see in a bowl on the board in the picture below. _MG_2889_MG_2898

And the fruit on the picture underneath is so good. I am not sure what it is called in english, and I don´t know how to spell it in Chinese, but it is something like “wangpì” in Cantonese pronunciation. Many Chinese people don´t like this fruit because of the sourness, but it is that mix of sour and sweet that I really like about it. Warning though, there are like 3-4 stones in one fruit, so many also think they are annoying to eat. _MG_2905_MG_2911_MG_2926_MG_2939_MG_2949_MG_2978_MG_2952_MG_2968_MG_2994

We spent half the day in the village and after we went to a restaurant to eat. Before we got to the restaurant we stopped by a fruit stand where they sold a weird fruit that turned out to be delicious. Directly translated it is called “big-tree-pineapple”. By look it is easy to confuse with durian, but this fruit doesn’t smell as much and alike, and it kind of tastes like banana, but with another texture. _MG_3001

Atelier

All around the world, China

One thing that we did this week was to visit an atelier with some of my dad´s friends. The art teacher was truly an artist, and so were his students. Everyone who was there really knew how to paint beautifully. fullsizeoutput_1649fullsizeoutput_1647_MG_2850fullsizeoutput_1643
We also got the chance to try painting ourselves, but compared to the students we felt really, really bad. Anyhow, it was a cool experience, and I definitely admire artists and their passion for art and their talent.

We stood there for 2 hours straight, but when I first start on something, I can´t or don´t want to quit unless I am done, which I were not with my painting. Unfortunately we had to leave the atelier because my dad´s friend, the teacher, had to close it. I am sad I didn´t get to finish it. (For those who follow me on instagram know which picture I attempted to paint.)Processed with VSCO with hb2 presetProcessed with VSCO with hb2 presetfullsizeoutput_164b

Guangzhou arrival

All around the world, China

Friday morning we departed from Norway and arrived China saturday morning chinese time. 12 hours on the plane usually feels like forever, but this time I watched movies which kept the time going. When we finally arrived, we got picked up at the airport by some friends and they drove us to our grandparents home who were really happy to see us!fullsizeoutput_13fd

We went out with them yum cha which was very nice, but we were all so tired and just wanted to sleep, so that´s what we did when we came home.IMG_0096IMG_0088

Day 2 we went shopping in China Plaza and Beijing Road which are the nearest shopping areas nearby our apartment. Otherwise, we have yum cha, eaten dinner and spent time with our grandparents. I love when grandpa buys us fruits, they are just so fresh and delicious here compared to Norway!fullsizeoutput_13f2

China 2016

All around the world, China

Last summer me and my family went to China to visit friends and relatives in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Xi´an. Our schedule was full of activities, and there was no time for rest. We were all super exhausted in the end, but we or at least I had a really, really great time!

Guangzhou

The time in Guangzhou we spent with our closest family like our grandparents and my uncle, aunt and cousins. It was really nice seeing them again after one year apart, or even more with my uncle´s family.

Other than just yum cha and eating dinner with friends and relatives, we did a lot of cool stuff. We went to cool cafés, explored the city, played tennis, went to an atelier and painted, went to the countryside and a grape farm etc. So much fun, in such little time.

In our stay in China, we also went to visit some more relatives in Xi´an which is a very vibrant city which I like really much. We went to a lot of familial visits where we met people we hadn´t seen in a long time. Our “cousin” Wangang really groomed us, and took us to eat a variety of food so we could get a taste of Xi´an. He drove us around, showed us everything that was worth seeing, briefly; he did a lot for us.

With him we bicycled 13 km around the wall of Xi´an which was really cool and a new experience. It was a bit hard with the tandem cycles in the start, but after me and my sister got the hang on it things started to go smoothly.

There was so much to watch and so much to learn, and picking our own watermelons and riding were a lot of fun. I really had a great time there!Processed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with hb2 preset

Shenzhen

Later in our stay we went on a trip with some friends of my dad and their families. The little town/city we went to the first day was marvelous. The petits shops were so cool and they sold a lot of coconut water, milk and everything with coconut (i love coconuts)!IMG_3395Processed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 preset

But what really was breathtaking was the beautiful view. The beach shocked me when I saw the clear, turquoise water. We went on board on a boat and drifted around for some hours where we could just enjoy the view and relax. When the boat returned to the beach we went for a swim in the perfect tempered water.

Later that day we ate together everyone and we got to know the children of the other families. IMG_5723Processed with VSCO with f2 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with f2 preset

Hong Kong

Hong Kong was just a one-day trip and we didn´t stay really long. It was super hot and sunny which I found exhausting. The city is great though, but not particularly different from the rest of China. Processed with VSCO with f2 preset
